Where we get things and such.

My friend Jen and I were having a conversation about home-owning. For real, it is no joke expensive. Because once you buy the house, you need things to put in the house. And if you are like Jen and me, you don't just want a random old couch and a few vases. You want a whole finished look. And that costs money. I was chatting with her and realizing that our house goods (furniture, decor, frames, drapery, kitchen supplies) have come from so many places. And the mix of Pottery Barn with Ikea is what makes us able to afford it all. Because sure, we might splurge once in awhile on a nice item, but we also are not going to turn up our nose at the $4.99 candles at Home Goods.

So I was thinking, as we go through the rooms in our house... here are some of my favorite places to shop for certain things. I actually think within all the places listed, I've covered every item in our home.

Furniture
Ikea
American Signature
Pottery Barn & Restoration Hardware (for a random nice piece here & there)
Craigslist (just found a dresser we might refinish for Baby W for $30)
Habitat Re-Stor (google if you have one in your area)
Family or friend pass downs (always check if anyone is getting rid of anything, that's how we scored our kitchen table, china cabinet & living room carpet)

Home Renovations
Ikea (our entire kitchen was 1/4 of the price it would have been elsewhere)
Home Depot (our second home, no joke)
Lowes for one step up from the Depot.

Home Decor
Home Goods (#1 go to place before I even look elsewhere)
Pottery Barn Sale Items
Target (drapes, throw rugs for bathroom, candles, small items)
Overstock.com (awesome rugs and runners, sheets, comforters)
OneKingsLane.com (emails daily with deals for home decor)
Crate & Barrel (small things, fake plants, etc. Also had on our wedding registry)
AC Moore/Michaels (I get candles here, but also small little "furniture" type things- baskets, stools)
Self DIY crafts

Just some ideas... ahhh and now my mind is wandering to what we need next for baby girl's room. I guess I should put Babys R Us on the furniture list!

xo,
Decorating Dreamer.
